first, with amy hollyfield in oakland. amy? >> kristen, we met with passengers as they evacuated from the train. they say it was tough to breathe while they were stuck. they say it was a scary situation. some saw people carried out on stretchers some with oxygen masks. firefighters say nine people were taken to the hospital. two people said they didn't want to go although firefighters were trying to get them to go. 700 people remain on the train that was stuck in the berkeley hills tunnel between rockridge and orinda. they were stuck on there for an hour. many say their cars were filling up with smoke and some passengers were having trouble breathing. they say it was scary. >> we were under the caldecott tunnel for hours. the lady passed out. i was crazy.

i helped her out. >> everyone was freaked out and the many issue is we were not communicated with. >> bart officials say this is all because of a smoky prick situation. they say this was no fire but what passes were dealing with is brake dust on the trains. they did send a rescue train to the stranded train but they could not get to them and finally they got the troubled train moving and brought them to the rockridge station. most people walked off the train on their own but therapy shaken the i met with a mother with a seven-year-old daughter with her and she put a barbie movie, on, on the tone on distract hour daughter. another woman said she took a xanax to calm down it will be a while before many board a bart

train again. >> we continue our team coverage with abc7 news reporter talking to officials at orinda station. what are they saying, laura? >> the bart spokesman happened to be stuck here, herself, after her train was behind the train that was stuck in the tunnel. she said specifically that it was an emergency brake that got stuck and was engaged on the train stuck in the tunnel. they are investigating. when we arrived there was a huge traffic jam. many passengers were on the train behind the one that started smoking in the tunnel. that train was off loaded to be used as a rescue team for those in the tunnel leaving hundreds of those passengers stranded along with those who usually catch a ride to work or school. the bart spokesman was on the train that was off loaded and

spoke with us a short time ago to update what happens next with service. >> now the train is out of the way, we have discovered there is a problem on one of the tracks between orinda and rockridge. we have to single track through the berkeley hill tunnel which will take a significant amount of time because of the log jam created from the hour-long incident on this very busy pittsburg-bay point line. >> i am very upset. this has been going with bart for a while. i started back catching bart. it has been a while. i have never experienced anything like this. >> we have an update the past few minutes, with the single tracking now has ended and they are back to running normal service through the berkeley hills tunnel on both tracks. they expect residual delays. we had a lot of petroleum here at the orinda bart station on their phones panicky phone calls to friends and family members to

get someone to pick them up to take them west through the tunnel or east to concord and pittsburg and antioch to pick up their cars. there were a lot of folks here who were upset about a lack of communication from bart on exactly what was going on and whether they could take the train back to pittsburg or bay point. service has improved dramatically and now there are two tracks running through the tunnel the residual delays should work themselves out by the evening commute. >> thanks, laura. you can see from the cell phone video sent by a rider that a few people had trouble breathing because of the break fumes. some complains they could not on the doors to ventilate the car or evacuate but part says that is a standard safety procedure. >> when the ventilation system starts in the tunnel it is automatic closure of the doors and that is to the safety of the personnel on the train as well as the firefighters responding.

>> fire chief says that they cannot have people walking on or near the tracks when the rescue train headed into the town them which is why people had to wait inside the disabled train. >> in seconds of the train stopping we got photos into our newsroom. this photo from a commuter frank yeng shows business as usual. and will wilkins tweeted this picture, and you can see some are smiling, and he said the brake dust cheered but that the smell on the train was "overpowering." when he arrived at rockridge, he said emergency personnel was treating the situation seriously. and another from will shows how many commuters were impacted as they stood on the platform waiting for another train. we will have continuing coverage of the bart emergency this or with more later today on abc7 news at 4:00 and 5:00 and 6:00 and online at abc7news.com. you can always get breaking news alerts any time following us on

>> developing news of the south bay family would plane disappeared over idaho on sunday. searchers called in reinforcement to scour the rugged terrain that took off in oregon on sunday but never made it in montana. our reporter is in the newsroom with the latest. >> the spokesman for the valley county sheriff says that 18 more members of the idaho mountain search and recess unit are on the ground and three more fixed wick planes are in the sky, so, now, 60 people and seven planes or seven aircraft are searching for the missing plane and the smith family. it is a signal will the transmitter that search planes picked up is weak. it is not an exact science.

being made. most of us will be around 60 and we will be in the upper 40's to low 50's in most neighbors. we could make it to 53 in oakland and warm sport at 54 in santa cruz, but concord, livermore, antioch, clear lake, cloverdale, half moon bay, all in the upper 40's, and may not even break out of the 40's. tonight, the low is richmond, oakland, san mateo and san francisco, above freezing, and everyone else is in the mid-20's to low 30's. it looks like everyone else is going to be dealing with a more widespread fog than what we sawyer. that is why we have this in effect from 9:00 tonight until 9:00 tomorrow morning. it is not freezing but in san francisco if you covered the plants, hopefully you took the covers off and you will cover them again tonight. pets need fresh water the keep them need if you can. pipes normally don't break in the mid-20's but rap them if the
